Department of Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineering is an applied science and technology based on primarily scientific principles, such as chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and thermodynamics. It is distinguished from other engineering by the attention given to equilibria and rates of reaction as well as the transport of momentum, energy and mass. The undergraduate program in the Department of Chemical Engineering provides the training to meet the above requirement. The aim of the first two years is to develop a necessary scientific background. In the third year emphasis is placed on engineering science, and in the fourth year on broadening the engineering background and training in research work. The research programs in the department are mainly concerned with powder technology, separation and recovery of useful ingredients from a mixture, development of chemical reactors and bioreactors, and design of process control systems.
